Adult Judo is a ‘martial art’ in addition to being a philosophy. It is also a competitive and Olympic sport.
Judo: The Gentle Way
Judo means “the gentle way” translated in Japanese. It promotes evasion of an attack through leverage. As a result, a smaller person can defend themselves against a larger person by using leverage to get an attacker off balance. Judo emphasizes the following:
- How to get the maximum effect with the minimum effort
- Mutual welfare and benefit
- That size doesn’t matter
- Physical fitness & sportsmanship
Judo teaches spectacular throws, take downs and grappling. The goal is to make your opponent lose their balance and end up on the ground. From there, techniques like chokes, arm locks and pins can gain you the upper hand no matter your size.
Benefits of Judo
- You’ll gain self-confidence as your skills grow
- You’ll gain physical conditioning
- It helps to improve self-control and self-discipline
Our experienced Judo instructors maintain a safe learning environment where mutual respect is key.
